Dating from at least 1706, the Greyhound Hotel is a listed building and was at one time surrounded by good hunting country. The name Greyhound stems from the sporting background and may also have been connected with the Gaynesford family who owned Stone Court at Carshalton and on whose estate the Hotel stood.

The pub has been connected with Young's since 1846 when the brick and stone sections of the pub were built or rebuilt. For many years, horses kept at the Greyhound were used to help pull carts out of the mud of the ponds opposite.

In 1969, during renovation work, a mosaic of a greyhound was found and it is thought to be the work of Italian craftsmen over 200 years ago.
