Hodgsons began life as a Book Auctioneers in 1807 and the site at 115 Chancery Lane was built in 1863 by Edmund Hodgson and remained in the family ever since. In 1981, the auctioning of old and rare books gave way to a Wine Bar and Restaurant of the same name and has continued for the last 23 years.
Whilst the walls may have been painted and the furniture changed periodically, the building still retains its essential character. The basement Wine Bar has a number of nooks, crannies and alcoves in which to find some peace and quiet, whilst enjoying a glass of wine or a light meal. Meanwhile, the ground floor restaurant has a high glass ceiling that creates a relaxed, spacious environment.
The basement now operates as a classic London wine bar, with the extensive wine list supplemented by quick, freshly prepared food. The ground floor operates a seperate a la carte restaurant menu, and both menus are over seen by our Head Chef, who we managed to poach from the same role at Le Pont de la Tour in Butlers Wharf.
Hodgsons is ideally suited for booking private functions. We can cater for a vast range of potential functions - from drinks and canapes to a formal multi-course dinner. Several different configurations are seperately bookable within the site - from a single alcove in the basement, to the mezzanine floor in the restaurant, or even the whole site, should your needs require it. Contact the management team at the site (details below) to discuss your requirement.
